The expert industrial cooling company, ISOFRED Ltd., with its headquarters in Alcoletge (Lleida), istalled the first high-temperature heat pump, made by the Company MAYEKAWA, in Spain. This original system applies a COGENERATION, which allows it to use the heat generated in an NH3 (ammonia) cooling system to generate hot water.
The project has been carried out in specialized installations in chicken processing. In order to develop this particular installation, it’s crucial to have a powerful cooling system, made for refrigerating and freezing the product. It should also include a permanent hot water inlet for consumption, in order to thermally treat the birds before processing. The hot water element has been taken care of to date using two large boilers.
The biggest challenge of this project dealt with inserting the BdC system in the cold circuit and being able to generate enough hot water to make up for using the boilers. Our goal was to gain efficiency and sustainability, and that’s exactly what happened. Since the installation on 12/23/2015, the BdC recovery system is working at full capacity. The technical data speaks for itself. BdC is capable of increasing the temperature of a 20m/h airflow with absorbed power between 110 and 200kW to 50⁰C. With these characteristics, the CAP has gone from 0.90 in the boiling system to 6.02 with the BdC substitution. Energy consumption has reduced by 85% and they’ve been able to eliminate atmosphere emissions by more that 650 Tm of CO2 each year.
There’s no doubt that the future of large industrial plants is heading towards increasing their efficiency and reducing contamination. This is a clear example of how to reach both goals with ingenuity and a wise use of our systems.
